New Life Update

Seven weeks from Sunday will be April 1 and this is the date of our first service at New Life Downtown. We are publishing Easter Sunday as our grand opening; however we will have a service the week before to ensure we are ready. Although time is flying faster than I can imagine, there are many things that are getting accomplished. Yesterday we had a meeting with folks who are capable of helping us with our curtains, sound system, video and even lighting. They have committed to giving us the merchandise at cost. We are just waiting to hear what that cost will be….We need to pray that we will be able to raise the money necessary for this to happen.

I also received confirmation that a Pastor friend of mine from out in California is willing to come out over the weekend of February 23-26. He has consulted with many churches and helped them establish a working outreach and follow up plan. I think he will be a great benefit to have here. We are planning to have a meeting on Friday, February 23 at our house with anyone interested in being actively involved in the outreach and follow up ministries. In addition, we will have a CORE GROUP/LAUNCH TEAM MEETING for all of us on Saturday, February 24 from 4:00 – 6:00pm. This will be held at the Scarritt Building downtown. We will plan to arrange for childcare as well. If at all possible we need everyone to come since we will be laying out the outreach/follow-up strategy and we need everyone to be active inviting, etc. We also will have our printed brochures and flyers to pass out at that time.

God Bless.

New Life Update

“Eight million people are looking for a place to be entertained, shop, work and live.” This statement is taken directly off of the Power and Light District website. The site continues, “A dynamic nine-city block mixed use retail, entertainment, office and residential district located right in the heart of downtown Kansas City. The District is the cornerstone of a massive $2 billion urban renaissance which includes major new attractions such as a new performing arts venue, arena, convention center expansion, and 10,000 new urban loft units. The $850 million district is the largest in the Midwestern United States.”

Our new church facility is located four blocks away from the heart of this Power and Light District. Though our responsibility to establish a church that has God-centered worship, life-enhancing discipleship and opportunities for relationships and ministry is somewhat daunting, our opportunity to share Christ with literally thousands of people from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic environments is invigorating.

Planting a church that provides the resources to meet the needs of our exploding downtown community is non-negotiable. From the beginning we have been impressed by the fact that if God wants a church downtown, He will get it. On that note, there is no question that He has called us to start New Life Ministries. This has been journey of faith and will also be a journey full of obstacles. With less than eight weeks to go before our first service, there is much to keep us on our knees.

We are sincerely grateful for your partnership in prayer for the following:
  • A spirit of unity and dependence on God
  • Physical resources for the building such as a piano, keyboard, sound system, video projectors and screens, stage, curtains and lighting.
  • People to take leadership in the areas of children’s ministry and music ministry.
  • Souls to reach for the Kingdom
On a final note, I have been encouraged by the following verse from Galatians 6:9, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

In His Grip!
