Brought to Our Knees
This week we have been attacked by the “virus.” I am not sure what we did to provoke this visit from the microscopic infectious agents; however, whatever we did to offend them was not a good idea. For the past few days as a family, we have been doing everything within our ability to fight off this virus…we have visited the doctor, purchased enough medicine to stock a small pharmacy and ingested enough Vitamin C to make a Florida Orange grove feel inferior. We are still under the influence of the “virus.” So this message is to those virus agents that have taken over our house: “We want our house back and we will take it back by force if we have to.”
It is easy to sound tough in front of a computer, pecking away, however the reality is that even though humans are much larger, the “virus” has the advantage of numbers. According to Wikipedia, “A medium sized virion next to a flea is roughly equivalent to a human next to a mountain twice the size of Mount Everest.” This is disappointing and certainly not very stabilizing for my masculinity. In essence, my household has been brought to our knees by something so tiny I can’t even see it. And even if I could see it, it is so small that I couldn’t even kill it. If I tried to squish the virion one at a time with my thumb they would just hide inside the valleys of my thumbprints.
So I have made my statement that I am fighting back…I will not allow my house to be overcome by these dirty little creatures…I will defeat the attack of the virus…..I think. Actually, I am beginning to understand that there are parts of life that I cannot control. It seems it takes a sickness to remind me of how stinckin’ small and weak I really am. If something as small as a virion can put me on my back, who do I really think that I am? Honestly, how tough do you have to be to fight off an attack of something as small as the virion?
The reason the virion are successful is that our immune system is not running as efficiently as possible. It could be any number of reasons such as lack of sleep, poor nutrition, being around to many influential bad virions, etc. A quick comparison to our spirituality will show many similarities.
When we get spread too thin and do not have an appropriate amount of time in the nutrition of the Scriptures we are susceptible to the attack of evil that is all around us. When we are regularly out in the world, we must team up with other believers to help restore our spiritual appetites. We should make worship and learning with the church a priority, and when we are getting “run down” we need to ask the “Great Physician” for supernatural spiritual healing.
I really hope we can kick the viruses out of our house so we can be together with you on Sunday for worship as a church body. In the meantime, I will risk turning orange with Vitamin C to kick this virus.
