A Reminder for Difficult Times

This morning shortly after stumbling out of bed and successfully navigating downstairs in the dark I made a bottle and started feeding Paiton. My mind wandered from the day ahead, to the stock market, to trying to imagine what Paiton could understand. For a moment I was envious of her…..think about it…..all she has to do is eat, sleep and endure a diaper change. Her main responsibilities are to whimper when she needs something….if that doesn’t work she just needs to cry louder….and I’m not certain, but I think she can get as loud as she needs to be, to get what she needs to get.

So this morning as my mind was wandering from topic to topic I had a thought that stopped me in my tracks and I thought, “This would be a great e-mail topic for today.” It was something that if the words were taken literally would actually be pretty funny……the funny thing now, is that for the life of me, I can’t remember what it was….

Am I the only one who has a grand thought and tucks it away for the near future and then when the near future comes can’t resuscitate it? This is so FRUSTRATING!!! The word is on the tip of my tongue and even with the help of Google and Wikipedia combined, I can’t get it.
I have another problem....in addition to memory loss…..I am stubborn! When these two problems get paired together chances are there will be a nuclear etymological reaction in the near future.

See, how can I think of something so intellectual sounding as “nuclear etymological reaction” and not recall a simple thought I had this morning?

This is just the way it is sometimes…..we can dive to catch a line drive and then miss the pop fly. We can awe clients and perform incredibly in our careers and then forget something simple. We can spend hundreds of hours planning for the future and in one catastrophic event lose it all.

I guess if there is a point to be made it is this: don’t hold anything too tightly! Learn to travel with the circumstances God is putting into your life…..

One last metaphor and I’m done……Judo is a martial art that is successful because it uses the force of an opponent against the opponent. When faced with difficult times, we must learn that our trials could be the motivation necessary for us to make change. Stop fighting the circumstances that God allows to come into your life and in turn allow Him to use them to improve your status in His eyes.

This Sunday we continue our study of 1 Peter….the Christians are persecuted, scattered and getting overwhelmed with life. We will look at chapter 2:4-10 and hopefully find encouragement and fresh energy to live out our faith in spite of our circumstances. I hope to see you there….and if I think of my word….I’ll share the story then……chances are, it’s gone!
